Ian Li Predicting the future of warfare is at best a speculative affair. Any forecast can never be proposed with absolute certainty, no matter how robust the underlying analysis. The future is always somewhat uncertain. In fact, history is replete with examples of visionaries who have tried but failed to accurately divine the nature of change. Nonetheless, it is a necessary endeavour, because such is the cost of war today that the implications of failure can be far-reaching, even existential. From the Oracle of Delphi to the modern application of data analytics, military planners over the ages have sought greater clarity regarding the future conduct of war.[1] However, there is no crystal ball for future warfare. Instead, this essay argues that historical lessons provide the best means of determining its form, but only if they are used correctly. The context behind each case study must be carefully considered by military planners who seek to learn from the past so that the observations gathered can be accurately extrapolated onto the present situation, and the resulting lessons meaningfully applied.

The ‘hybrid warfare’ concept had been coined years earlier, but became fashionable only when it was adopted and adapted by NATO in 2014, after which academic interest suddenly sky-rocketed. Academics often adopted NATO’s understanding of the concept, took for granted its fit for Russian actions, and imported its political assumptions into the academic debate. The fashionability of the term also led to bandwagoning and thus superficial engagement with both the concept and the phenomenon it was applied to. This article outlines this process and its implications for the field of Strategic Studies.

As in most CMSes, there are many ways to do the same or similar things. While Getting Started on WordPress is meant for general beginners to take the quickest and easiest path to IndieWeb-ifying their personal site, there are additional and alternate options for many of the moving pieces. Many of these can be found below, roughly in the same order as on the getting started page.
Advanced users and developers are more than welcome to browse through these as well as the WordPress/Plugins page. In ‘Western Strategy’s Two Logics: Diverging Interpretations’, Lukas Milevski of Leiden University argues that whereas classical strategic theory encompasses two different logics – instrumentality and adversariality – and two different modes – decision-making and performance – in modern strategy these modes have been on diverging paths, with varying interpretations – game theory; operational art; and the ends, ways, means model – privileging one logic above the other. Il est bien trop tôt pour tirer les enseignements du » World Marathon Challenge 2023« . Cependant, j’aimerais partager avec vous quelques réflexions. Lors du 5e marathon (Madrid), je suis tombé 2x et immédiatement je me suis souvenu d’une citation de Nelson Mandela (Président d’Afrique du Sud – 1994/1999): » La plus grande gloire n’est pas de ne jamais tomber, mais de se relever à chaque chute« .
N’est ce pas vrai ? C’est pour moi l’essentiel même si mon égo a pris un coup lorsque je lis les résultats du 6e et 7e marathon ! Je dois constater que durant les moments les plus pénibles le trio : cerveau, corps et esprit a fonctionné à merveille.Je terminerai par une dernière réflexion: la valeur humaine. En effet, pendant 7 jours (24h sur 24), vous partagez votre état d’âme avec des personnes de cultures différentes, de vécus différents (je pense là notamment aux deux coureurs en chaise roulante: quelle leçon de vie !).
Encore un grand merci à toutes les personnes qui m’ont témoigné leur soutien tout au long de ces sept jours et bien entendu un « big hug » à ma Famille qui accepte mon mode de vie depuis plus de 27 ans.
