About me
You should have a personal website not because you need to grow an audience, and turn your hobbyist writing into a profession.
You should have a personal website not because you’re an expert on some subject, and it would be cruel to deny the world your wisdom.
You should have a personal website not because you think you’re important.
You should have a personal website not because the world is in need of your highlight reel.
You should have a personal website because I think the online world is as real as the offline world. You have a presence in one, and you should have a presence in the other.

ORCID record : 0000-0002-4566-3794
As a career officer, I have been working since 1 September 2013 at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), where I am the Chief of Staff. I am also a defence policy researcher.
At GCSP, I led the Regional Perspectives Programme (2014-2018) and the Diplomatic Dialogue (2019-2021). Until the end August 2013, I was Senior advisor to the Chief of the Armed Forces Prior to that, I headed the research and development of the Swiss Armed Forces’ military doctrine (2003-2008) and held management positions in private industry.
My interests are military history, strategy and Swiss politics. I am chairman of the Société romande des armes spéciales (SRAS) as well as a member of the board of the Swiss Association for Military History and Science (ASHSM) and the Association Saint-Maurice d’Études militaires.
I go to the mountains to recharge my batteries.
I have a Ph. D. in political science from the University of Lausanne (2023). My doctoral thesis is entitled “Actors and transformations of Swiss defence policies (1948-2008)”. I graduated as a computer engineer from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (1988) and in 2007 I attended the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. I obtained a Master of arts in international studies at King’s College, London (2008).
About this site
I don’t normally translate texts, which are written either in French or in English.
I have created my first sites under compuserve and geocities in the mid 90. I then used site generators in the early 2000. This site originated in the mid 2000s. I switched from Joomla to WordPress at the end of 2022.
My favourite means of communication are described in Hello.
I have not yet taken the time to adapt the theme to limit the number of my own photos and descriptions on each page, as well as to have the about page as home page. This annoys me much but it is currently necessary in order to use Webmentions.

I plan to apply the IndieWeb principle of POSSE – Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere. My articles are written here and eventually posted elsewhere.
