Aimed at enhancing training and dialogue on security related topics, the Joint Security Seminar is a contribution to a broad network of cooperation between the GCSP and the leading Chinese think tank. It takes place alternatively in China and in Switzerland
The 8th Joint Security Seminar held at the GCSP on 20th September 2018 provided friendly and candid exchanges, focused on three prominent topics: (1) North Korean nuclear issue: future options; (2)China-US relations in the context of trade war and security implications; (3) US-Europe Relations under Trump's Administration and its incidences on the International Strategic environment.
The discussions evolved against the backdrop of the recent the Pyongyang Summit between DPRK leader Kim Jong-un and ROK President Moon Jae-in and the Seventh Zermatt Roundtable on Current Security Issues in North East Asia held the days before. It took also into account the uncertainties linked with the raising trade war between the US Administration under President Trump and other countries, notably China.
